New Delhi, 06 April (H.S.):
World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz expressed excitement about returning to his favored clay courts ahead of this week's Monte Carlo Masters, aiming to regain rhythm before defending his French Open title.
Stellar Clay Record
Alcaraz won his fifth Grand Slam at Roland Garros 2025, defeating Jannik Sinner, and claimed clay titles in Monte Carlo and Rome last year while finishing runner-up in Barcelona.
Practice Buzz
Speaking to media in Monaco, the 22-year-old said: This is the best time of my season. I miss clay when it's gone. It's been too long since Roland Garros—on the first practice day, I told my team, 'Time to get the socks dirty.' Feels amazing to be back.
Full Clay Swing Planned
Missing Madrid Open 2025 due to injury, Alcaraz plans to compete in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, and French Open (main draw May 24). It's physically and mentally demanding, but Barcelona's special despite needing rest—I'll focus on body management.
Last year's Monte Carlo triumph proved a career turning point, boosting confidence for sustained improvement.
Alcaraz starts in round two against Stan Wawrinka or Sebastian Baez.
