Kathmandu, 05 April (H.S.):
Nepal's Supreme Court has scheduled hearings today (Sunday) on bail applications filed by former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and ex-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, marking a pivotal moment in a high-profile political probe.
The petitions will come before a bench comprising Justices Binod Sharma and Sunil Pokhrel.
Oli and Lekhak have been in police custody since March 28, following a report by the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led commission investigating the GenZ movement incidents. The duo contests their arrests as unlawful, filing bail pleas on March 29 demanding immediate release.
The court declined interim relief that day but issued a show-cause notice to the government. With written responses now submitted, today's listing advances the case amid intense scrutiny.
The GenZ agitation sparked by protests over governance and rights has fueled political tensions, with Oli's Nepali Communist Party faction accusing authorities of vendetta. Outcomes could reshape Nepal's fragile coalition dynamics.
