Kathmandu, 05 April (H.S.):
Dol Prasad Aryal, lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been formally elected as Speaker of Nepal's House of Representatives, with his swearing-in set for later today.
In Sunday's parliamentary session, Aryal's election by majority was announced. Earlier, RSP chief Rabi Lamichhane proposed his candidacy, which sailed through uncontested.
The Federal Parliament Secretariat opened nominations Friday, with Aryal emerging as the sole contender by deadline—securing his unopposed victory.
President Ram Chandra Paudel will administer the oath of office and secrecy at Shital Niwas at 2:30 PM today. Aryal will assume charge immediately after.
This swift transition stabilizes Nepal's lower house amid coalition shifts and probes into ex-leaders like K.P. Sharma Oli, bolstering RSP's influence in the fragile government.
