commercial operation (COD). This significant achievement will significantly
increase the state's power generation capacity.
Once fully
operational, the project will generate approximately 47.52 million units of
electricity per day, providing significant support in meeting the state's
ever-growing energy demand and ensuring better and uninterrupted power supply
to the general public. With the addition of the project's third unit, the
state's total installed generating capacity is expected to increase to
approximately 13,388 MW.
Energy

decisive step towards making Uttar Pradesh energy self-sufficient. The state
government is fully committed to ensuring reliable, uninterrupted, and quality
power supply to consumers and is continuously working towards this goal. This

sector but will also provide new impetus to industrial development, attract
investment, and overall economic growth. Uttar Pradesh is now rapidly moving
towards energy self-sufficiency, signaling a bright future for the state.
It is
noteworthy that Unit 1 and Unit 2 of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in
Kanpur have already been successfully operational since December 2024 and
December 2025, respectively, demonstrating the project's continued progress.
According to the allocation set by the Ministry of Power, Government of India,
approximately 93.11 percent of the power generated by this project will be
received by Uttar Pradesh, while the remaining power will be supplied to other
states. This will not only meet the state's energy needs but will also
strengthen the interstate energy balance.
