New Delhi, 30 April (H.S.):
The fiercely contested Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 race for the Orange Cap and Purple Cap saw a major reshuffle following Sunrisers Hyderabad’s six‑wicket win over Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
Hyderabad’s batsmen produced a standout performance, completely reshaping the overall runs and wickets leaderboards.
Orange Cap: Abhishek and Klaasen seize control
Before the match, Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi held the Orange Cap with 400 runs, but the clash pushed him down to third place.
Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma smashed 45 runs off just 24 balls, while wicket‑keeper batter Heinrich Klaasen carried his bat through the innings with an unbeaten 65 off 30 balls to steer his team to victory. With these knocks, Abhishek Sharma has moved to the top of the Orange Cap list with 425 runs, while Klaasen follows in second place with 414 runs.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi now sits in third with 400 runs. Delhi Capitals’ KL Rahul and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli occupy fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with both batters having crossed the 350‑run mark this season.
Purple Cap: Ishan Malinga marches ahead
In the bowling charts, Ishan Malinga once again delivered a strong spell, claiming 1 for 29. He removed Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav to extend his tally.
With this performance, Malinga has taken 15 wickets, moving to the front of the Purple Cap race. Right behind him are Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rajasthan Royals’ Jofra Archer and Chennai Super Kings’ Anshul Kamboj, all on 14 wickets in second place.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants’ Prins Yadav and Gujarat Titans’ Kagiso Rabada continue to hold strong positions with 13 wickets apiece, sitting just behind the leading group.
This flurry of runs and wickets has now set up a thrilling conclusion to the IPL 2026 individual awards race, with the battle for Orange and Purple Caps set to intensify in the remaining matches.
