Bhubaneswar, 03 April (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the passage of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, describing it as a historic step toward trust-based governance.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister highlighted that the bill decriminalises minor offences, replacing punitive measures with rational, citizen-friendly provisions. He noted that the reform underscores the government’s commitment to ease of living and a fair, proportionate compliance framework.
The legislation is expected to relieve citizens from the burden of criminal proceedings for minor procedural lapses, introducing administrative measures such as civil penalties, extended timelines for accident compensation, and simplified municipal and transport compliance.
For micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the bill represents a significant boost, replacing imprisonment with warnings, improvement notices, and proportionate penalties while removing outdated provisions. According to the Chief Minister, these measures will enhance ease of doing business and create a more supportive regulatory environment for entrepreneurship.
“This transformative initiative will strengthen India’s entrepreneurial spirit and accelerate our collective journey toward inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” he stated, emphasizing the bill’s potential to meaningfully improve the everyday lives of citizens across the country.
