Bhubaneswar, 03 April (H.S.): In a significant law enforcement action, Chandrasekharpur police arrested eight individuals, including four women, on Friday for allegedly impersonating CID officers and extorting money from educational institutions and business establishments in Bhubaneswar. The accused have been forwarded to court following their arrest.

The group was apprehended while demanding money outside a private educational institution within Chandrasekharpur police limits, where they had reportedly displayed a red notice. Acting on a tip-off, police reached the location and detained the suspects.

Investigations revealed that the accused operated a private detective agency in the Patrapada area for the past three to five years. They allegedly used threats and intimidation to extract money, often citing alleged irregularities in the targeted institutions.

The racket reportedly extended beyond educational institutions to major commercial establishments, with the accused posing as CID officers and demanding money under the pretext of official inspections. In multiple instances, they marked properties with red flags, claiming the premises had been seized.

On Friday , the group entered an engineering college and disrupted ongoing examinations while claiming to be CID officers. Although college authorities alerted the police, the accused continued asserting their false identities even in the presence of law enforcement.

Police have confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and determine the full extent of the racket.
