New Delhi, 28 April (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has outlined what he calls the “fundamental causes of progress,” invoking a Sanskrit subhashitam to underscore the importance of self‑discipline, skill, patience and thoughtful action. In a social‑media post on Tuesday, he linked these traits not only to individual success but also to the broader growth and strength of the nation.

“Success through disciplined effort”

Sharing a Sanskrit verse on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote that “extraordinary success can be achieved through labour done with self‑control and kindness,” and that such effort infuses the country with “new energy” in its prosperity and power.

He quoted the shloka:

“Krodhaṁ saṁyamo daakṣhyam apramado dhṛtiḥ smṛtiḥ / Samīkṣyaca samārambho viddhi mūlaṁ bhavasya tu.”

According to the translation circulated by the Prime Minister’s Office, this means that effort, self‑control, skill, vigilance, patience, memory, and thoughtful initiation of any task are the basic causes of progress.
