Pauri Garhwal, April 27 (H.S.): A 21-year-old B.Tech student of National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand, hailing from Hyderabad, is feared drowned in the Alaknanda River after he went missing while bathing with friends on Sunday evening, officials said.

The student, identified as Anand Mohan, is a third-year engineering student. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday near the NIT campus ground along the riverbank.

According to officials, Mohan had gone to the riverside with three classmates. As per their account, he jumped into the river from an elevated mound but failed to resurface, triggering panic among his companions.

Following the incident, his panicked friends immediately alerted local authorities. Teams from Srinagar police station, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Water Police rushed to the spot and launched an extensive search operation.

Search efforts continued late into Sunday evening; however, the student could not be traced. The operation was suspended due to darkness, officials said.

On Monday, April 27, search operations resumed in the early hours with teams intensifying efforts to locate the missing student. Authorities confirmed that the family of the student has been informed, and further updates are awaited as the search continues.
