Abu Dhabi, 27 April (H.S.):
In an unprecedented move to bolster regional security, Israel has deployed its advanced Iron Dome air defense system and operational personnel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This deployment, which marks the first time Israeli troops have utilized the system to protect a foreign nation, follows a series of intense missile and drone attacks launched by Iran against the Gulf state.
The decision was finalized after direct communication between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as Abu Dhabi sought urgent defensive assistance. Reports indicate that Iran has targeted the UAE with a significant volume of ordinance—including approximately 550 ballistic and cruise missiles and over 2,200 drones—aimed at both civilian and military installations. While Emirati forces managed to intercept a large portion of these threats, the deployment of the Israeli battery has provided essential support in neutralizing incoming projectiles.
This operation underscores the deepening military and strategic partnership between the two nations, which has accelerated significantly since the signing of the Abraham Accords in 2020.
By integrating Israeli defense technology with local infrastructure, the cooperation signifies a major shift in Gulf security dynamics, effectively transitioning the Abraham Accords from a diplomatic framework into a functional battlefield alliance. As the conflict persists, this collaborative defense measure remains a focal point in the regional effort to counter persistent aerial threats.
