Lucknow, 27 April (H.S.):
In a dramatic finish at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a hard-fought victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the first Super Over of the IPL 2026 season. The match, which remained competitive until the very last delivery of regulation play, kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout the evening.
Kolkata Knight Riders batted first, posting 155/7 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, the Lucknow Super Giants mirrored the score, finishing at 155/8 after a tense final over. The drama peaked when LSG’s Mohammed Shami struck a six on the final ball of the regulation 20 overs, forcing the match into a tie and setting the stage for the dramatic Super Over finish .
The Super Over was dominated by KKR’s Sunil Narine, whose exceptional bowling performance restricted the Super Giants to just one run, while claiming two crucial wickets. Narine dismissed Nicholas Pooran on the first ball, and following a brilliant collaborative effort in the field by Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh, Aiden Markram was also sent back to the pavilion.
Chasing a modest target for victory in the Super Over, Rinku Singh—who had been the star of the night with an unbeaten 83 off 51 balls during the regulation innings—struck a boundary on the very first delivery to secure the win for Kolkata. With this victory, KKR has improved its position in the points table, marking their second win of the tournament and providing a significant morale boost to the squad .
