New Delhi, 26 April (H.S.):

India’s wheat production remains robust this season, supported by improved agricultural management and the adoption of high-yield crop varieties, despite encountering various climatic hurdles. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare reported that wheat was sown across approximately 33.4 million hectares this year—an increase over the previous season—which has been instrumental in stabilizing output.

While farmers faced challenges such as abnormal heat in February, unseasonal rains, and hailstorms that impacted grain filling in certain areas, these adverse effects were largely mitigated by strategic practices.

The widespread use of climate-resilient seed varieties, timely sowing, and effective pest management helped maintain stable production levels across major growing states.

Procurement data further reflects this positive trend. In Haryana, wheat arrivals have already surpassed initial government targets, while Madhya Pradesh has proactively increased its procurement target to 100 lakh metric tons in anticipation of a higher yield.

Similarly, Maharashtra is projected to see steady growth with an output estimate of 22.90 lakh tons.

Overall, the government maintains a satisfactory outlook for the nation's wheat harvest, noting that the combination of expanded acreage and proactive agricultural support has successfully offset localized weather-related damage.
