Kolkata, 26 April (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asserted that West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress has deviated from its original “Ma, Maati, Manush” slogan, accusing the party of fostering a culture of syndicates, corruption and “jungle raj” in the state.

Speaking at a BJP election rally in Thakurnagar in North 24 Parganas on Sunday, the PM sharply targeted the TMC and appealed to voters to bring a “parivartan government” through the upcoming Assembly polls.

From “Ma, Maati, Manush” to “syndicate raj”

PM Modi reminded the audience that the TMC had come to power rallying around the slogan of mother, land and people, but stressed that it had now moved away from those ideals. He alleged that the state today faces syndicate control, corruption and a breakdown of law and order, and that the BJP is the only party capable of restoring good governance.

The PM claimed that the first‑phase results had already dented the TMC’s overconfidence and predicted that the second‑phase voting would seal a decisive victory for the BJP.

Attack on governance, industry and employment

The Prime Minister also attacked the state government over its handling of industry and jobs. Stating that the Hooghly river belt once thrived on manufacturing, he said factory after factory is now closing or being locked up under Trinamool rule. Referring to the closure of jute mills, he said industries are not being nurtured under the current administration, even as the Centre has raised the minimum support price (MSP) for jute and made its use mandatory in packaging, thereby supporting farmers and the jute sector.

Security, welfare and women’s issues

PM Modi took on the TMC over women’s security, citing incidents such as those in Sandeshkhali and alleging that accused people are being shielded. He promised a BJP‑led government would ensure women’s empowerment through financial support, free food rations, housing, healthcare, maternal benefits, student‑assistance schemes and free treatment.

On the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, he said it is meant to grant citizenship and rights to persecuted refugees, and promised that Matua and Namashudra communities, among others, will gain permanent recognition and rights similar to other Indian citizens. He accused the TMC of spreading misleading narratives on the issue.

Crackdown on infiltration, appeal for “double‑engine government”

The Prime Minister warned that an anti‑BJP vote would encourage illegal infiltration, and said his government would take strict action against such entries if elected to power in Bengal. He exhorted voters to back the BJP so that a “double‑engine sarkar”—Centre and state both under BJP control—can accelerate Bengal’s development and help it become one of India’s leading states.

Youth, sports and closing appeal

Praising Bengal’s youth for their creativity on social media, Modi said the BJP would support and harness their talent. He also pledged to promote sports and infrastructure so the state can grow in that sector.

Concluding his speech, the PM invoked Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, calling the elections a historic opportunity to change Bengal’s destiny. He appealed to people to vote in large numbers, ensure maximum participation in the upcoming phase, and install the BJP in power.
