Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim on April 27 and 28 to attend the closing ceremony of the state’s 50th Statehood Year celebrations and to inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore. The visit is expected to give a major push to infrastructure, connectivity, health, education, tourism, agriculture and urban development in the Himalayan state.
The Prime Minister’s Office said PM Modi will arrive in Gangtok around 3 pm on April 27. On the morning of April 28, he will visit the Orchidarium in Gangtok, where the advanced “Swarnajayanti Maitri Manjari Park” has been developed to showcase the state’s rich biodiversity and floral heritage.
Later, he will participate in the 50th year statehood closing ceremony at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok and address a public gathering. On this occasion, he will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth more than ₹4,000 crore across the state, covering sectors such as infrastructure, connectivity, health, education, energy, urban development, environment, tourism and agriculture.
Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for a 100‑bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district. He will also inaugurate a 30‑bed Integrated Sowa‑Rigpa (traditional Tibetan‑medicine) hospital at NIT Deorali, which will strengthen the state’s traditional‑medicine services and create new healthcare opportunities.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the permanent campus of Sikkim University, the Neta Subhas Chandra Bose Centre of Excellence building, the Helen Lepcha Medical College, and the Dantem Professional College. He will also dedicate model residential schools, a new degree college, monastic hostels‑cum‑classrooms, and launch IT‑based learning infrastructure in 160 schools, marking a major upgrade in Sikkim’s educational ecosystem.
To improve connectivity, he will lay the foundation stones for two double‑lane steel‑arch bridges over the Teesta River and inaugurate the widening and strengthening of the road from Birbhang to Namchi. In the energy sector, he will inaugurate the upgradation of transmission and distribution networks in Gangtok, which will make power supply more reliable.
Under urban‑development schemes, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a public service secretariat at Lumsy, the Civil Services Institute in Gangtok, several residential projects, and lay the foundation stone for the Sadbhavana Mandap along MG Road, all aimed at easing governance and public services.
For environmental protection, he will inaugurate the redevelopment of the sewage system at Singtam and the Rani Chhu River Pollution Control Project in Gangtok. In tourism, he will inaugurate the redevelopment of the Ridge Precinct, eco‑tourism facilities in Soreng, pilgrimage infrastructure and traveller hostels linked with the Kailash‑Manasarovar route, and lay the foundation stone for an eco‑pilgrimage complex at Gyalsing.
Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the Sikkim IFFCO Processing Plant, which is expected to boost agro‑processing and farmer incomes, and launch an indoor cricket facility in Pakyong district, giving a fresh impetus to sports infrastructure in the state.
