New Delhi, 26 April (H.S.): Delhi Capitals fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has shared his first public update since sustaining a serious head injury while fielding in the Indian Premier League (IPL), writing on Instagram: “Thanks for the messages, all good.” The brief message brought relief to fans after a worrying incident on the field.
Ngidi was hurt during the match against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, when he tried to take a catch off batter Priyansh Arya. As he dived backwards, he landed hard and his head and neck hit the ground violently. The 28‑year‑old immediately clutched his head and fell to the ground, prompting the match to be halted and the medical staff to rush on.
He was later stretchered off and taken to hospital in an ambulance as a precaution. The IPL and Delhi Capitals later confirmed that Ngidi was stable and expected to be discharged soon, with no major structural damage found.
In the post‑match press conference, Delhi Capitals’ cricket director Venugopal Rao said he did not believe the injury was serious, adding that the team would keep sharing updates as long as required. “I think it is not serious,” he said. “We will keep you updated, but the situation does not look too concerning.”
The match itself turned into a high‑scoring thriller. Delhi Capitals, batting first, piled up 264 for 2 in 20 overs, led by KL Rahul’s record‑breaking unbeaten 152 and Nitish Rana’s 91. In reply, Punjab Kings scripted the highest successful run‑chase in IPL history, reaching 265 with seven balls to spare, powered by Prabhsimran Singh (76), Arya (43) and an explosive unbeaten 71 off 36 by captain Shreyas Iyer.
Missing Ngidi’s presence in the death overs, Delhi’s bowling and fielding lacked bite, but the spotlight remained firmly on the South African paceman’s health—all of which now appears to be heading in the right direction.
