A severe head-on crash between two commuter buses unfolded near a Pentagon bus stop, leaving 23 people injured, among them several U.S. Defense Department staff members.The incident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Friday, involving an OmniRide bus and a Fairfax Connector bus, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.
Eighteen victims required hospital transport for advanced medical assessment, while five received on-site treatment. Ten of those hurt were confirmed as Defense Department passengers, highlighting the vulnerability of routine transit routes serving military hubs.
The Pentagon Force Protection Agency issued a statement confirming the details, noting that the Metro Access Road remained shuttered for investigation, which disrupted mass transit for hours.
Video evidence captured the forceful impact, but authorities have yet to determine the precise cause. The Arlington Fire Department assisted at the scene before deferring to federal investigators. This event underscores ongoing safety challenges in high-traffic areas proximate to critical government facilities.
