Mumbai, 24 April (H.S.): Chennai Super Kings (CSK) scripted history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by thrashing Mumbai Indians by a massive 103 runs in Thursday's clash. The victory at Wankhede Stadium marks CSK's biggest win in IPL history, while it stands as Mumbai's heaviest defeat.
Electing to bowl first after losing the toss, Mumbai watched Chennai post a formidable 207/6 in 20 overs. Sanju Samson emerged as the hero of CSK's triumph, smashing an unbeaten 101 off 54 balls in a blistering knock featuring 10 fours and 6 sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad (22), Dewald Brevis (21), and Jamie Overton (15) provided valuable support.
Chasing 208, Mumbai's innings crumbled spectacularly, slumping to 3/11 early on. Suryakumar Yadav (36) and Tilak Varma (37) offered a glimmer of hope with a 73-run stand, but the collapse continued. Hardik Pandya fell for just 1, as the team was bowled out for 104.
Akeal Hosein starred with the ball for Chennai, claiming 4/17 in 4 overs. Noor Ahmad took 2 wickets, while Mukesh Choudhary, Gurjapneet Singh, and Jamie Overton picked up one each.
The win shattered records: CSK now holds the most victories against Mumbai, with this margin etching it as their largest IPL triumph and Mumbai's biggest loss by runs.
CSK climbs to fifth in the points table, while Mumbai slips to eighth.
