President Droupadi Murmu formally accepted the credentials of the ambassadors from four countries during a ceremonial function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. The ceremony marked the official commencement of the diplomatic tenures of the envoys of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Namibia and Guinea‑Bissau in India.
Speaking on behalf of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, officials noted that President Murmu received the credentials from the following representatives: Vithaya Xayavong, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Emilie Ayaza Mushobekwa, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo; H Wing Commander Alex Lunyazo Tukuhupwele (Retd.), High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia; and Antonio Serifo Embalo, Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea‑Bissau.
The presentation of credentials is a formal diplomatic ritual that signifies the recognition of an envoy’s authority to represent their country in India and serves as a symbol of the strengthening of bilateral ties.
The President’s act of accepting the credentials reflects India’s continued commitment to deepening political, economic and cultural engagement with nations across Asia, Africa and the Pacific region.
The ceremony was conducted in a dignified and traditional setting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, underscoring the constitutional importance of accreditation and the institutional continuity of India’s foreign‑policy framework.
