New Delhi, 23 April (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu met a group of artists representing India’s traditional art forms at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday and viewed their artwork. The thirteen visiting artists are working in styles such as Kaavi, Nirmal, Mata ni Pachedi (a Gujarat folk art) and Gond (from Madhya Pradesh), and are currently staying at the President’s residence under the Artists‑in‑Residence programme.

The President’s Secretariat stated that the Artists‑in‑Residence scheme provides a platform for folk, tribal and traditional artists to live and work within the presidential complex, while showcasing their crafts in authentic forms. President Murmu described the programme as a celebration of India’s artistic heritage, reaffirming the vital role of living art traditions in preserving cultural identity and inspiring future generations.

She emphasized that such initiatives help sustain indigenous art practices and connect them with wider audiences in a dignified, supportive environment.
