Guwahati, 21 April (HS): The body of a young man was recovered from the Basistha river in the city on Tuesday, raising suspicion that it may have been carried through a drain before reaching the waterbody.

The deceased has been identified as Akhtar Ali, a resident of Hatigaon’s Natboma area. He had been reported missing since Sunday.

Preliminary reports suggest that the body might have drifted into the river through a manhole amid recent waterlogging in the city, though authorities are yet to confirm the exact circumstances.

Family members stated that Akhtar Ali was specially-abled. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death.------------
