Paris, 21 April (H.S.):
Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz has cast serious doubts over his participation in this year's French Open (Roland Garros), citing a severe wrist injury that demands cautious recovery over hasty return.
The 22-year-old Spaniard withdrew from last week's Barcelona clay-court event after injuring his wrist during a return shot, with medical scans revealing greater damage than anticipated. He subsequently pulled out of the Madrid Open, deepening uncertainty ahead of Roland Garros beginning May 18.
At a Monday ceremony, Alcaraz stated: I'd prefer returning later but fully fit, rather than rushing back and risking further harm. He emphasized his long career ahead: Pushing too hard for this Roland Garros could jeopardize future tournaments.
Dominance Interrupted
Alcaraz surrendered the World No. 1 ranking to Jannik Sinner after losing the Monte Carlo Masters final, ending a 17-match clay winning streak that included last season's Rome and Roland Garros triumphs. His measured approach prioritizes sustained excellence over immediate pressure.
