Punjab Kings’ young all-rounder Cooper Connelly has emerged as one of the standout performers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, impressing with his consistency and composed batting. In the recent match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he played a superb knock of 87 off 46 balls, although it was his teammate Priyansh Arya’s explosive 93 off 37 deliveries that drew more attention.

Together, the two batters stitched a remarkable 182-run partnership in just 80 balls, one of the most influential stands of the season so far. After the match, Connelly said that he and Arya are continuously learning from each other and working to improve their games.

“Every player has his own style. We discuss what works best for whom, and we learn small things from each other. Our goal is to keep improving and take the team forward,” Connelly said.

Connelly has scored 223 runs so far this season, putting him ahead of Punjab’s other key batters, including Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, who have each made around 200 runs. He credited his success to playing according to his strengths and avoiding unnecessary risks.

“Every player must identify his strengths and stick to them. The opposition looks for your weaknesses, but it is important to understand them and work on them,” he said.

Connelly also acknowledged the role of head coach Ricky Ponting in shaping his progress. He said Ponting’s guidance has helped him refine his game, while also praising captain Shreyas Iyer for his leadership.

“Ponting and Shreyas are taking the team in the right direction. Shreyas is a brilliant leader who creates a relaxed atmosphere and motivates every player to do better,” Connelly said.

Punjab Kings’ current run suggests that the side is moving in the right direction, with strong coordination and growing chemistry among the players.

Against Lucknow, Punjab posted a formidable total of 254 for 7 and later restricted Lucknow Super Giants to 200 for 5.
