New Delhi, 20 April (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid homage to Jagadguru Basaveshwara on the occasion of Basava Jayanti. In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister said he was paying tribute to Basaveshwara and his timeless teachings on this special day.
He said Basaveshwara’s vision of a just society and his unwavering efforts to empower people would continue to inspire generations.
Jagadguru Basaveshwara was a great 12th-century philosopher and social reformer. He is remembered for his vision of a fair and egalitarian society. Rejecting the caste system, he established the Anubhava Mantapa, which came to symbolize equality and open dialogue.
His philosophy was rooted in the principle of Kayakave Kailasa — the idea that work itself is worship. He is also regarded as the founder of the Lingayat tradition.
