New Delhi, 20 April (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajasthan on Tuesday to dedicate to the nation India’s first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex in Pachpadra, Balotra. On the occasion, he will also address a public gathering.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the project at around 11:30 am on April 21. The landmark facility is being regarded as a major achievement in India’s energy and petrochemical sectors.
Developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Rajasthan government, the greenfield refinery-cum-petrochemical complex has been built with an investment of more than Rs 79,450 crore and has a capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA).
The state-of-the-art complex integrates refining and petrochemical production, with a petrochemical capacity of 2.4 MMTPA. It has a Nelson Complexity Index of 17.0 and a petrochemical output share of more than 26 percent, placing it in line with global standards.
Officials said the project will play a significant role in strengthening the country’s energy security, boosting self-reliance in petrochemicals, and accelerating industrial growth. It will also create a foundation for the development of petrochemical and plastic parks in the region, supporting downstream industries and allied sectors.
In addition, the refinery is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities and contribute substantially to the region’s socio-economic development.
