Kolkata, 20 April (H.S.) : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas and his two sons for questioning after conducting a search operation at his residence, sources said on Monday.
The summons was issued after ED officials carried out raids at Biswas’s Fern Road residence in south Kolkata as part of an ongoing probe.
According to sources, investigators have found indications of alleged links between former Kalighat police station officer-in-charge Shantanu Sinha Biswas, south Kolkata-based Sona Pappu, and Behala-based promoter Joy Kamdar.
Biswas’s two sons, who are reportedly associated with educational institutions, are also said to have known Joy Kamdar. Investigators are now examining whether any financial transactions took place between the arrested promoter and the police officer or his family members.
The ED is also probing alleged monetary dealings between Sona Pappu and Joy Kamdar.
Kamdar was arrested on Sunday after prolonged questioning by the agency. However, after his health reportedly deteriorated, he was admitted to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. He is likely to be produced before a court on Monday.
Notably, police have so far failed to arrest Sona Pappu, the prime accused in a disturbance case reported in Ballygunge earlier this month. In connection with the same case, an Indian Police Service officer had also been questioned earlier.
On Sunday, the ED conducted a search at Biswas’s residence. The agency claimed that the officer was not present during the raid, while one of his sons later told the media that officials had questioned his father.
