Hooghly, 20 April (H.S.) : Former CPI(M) panchayat pradhan and currently a senior leader of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party, Sahriyar Mallik, on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Left parties, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also made a sensational claim regarding the Singur land issue, stating that in 2003, while serving as the pradhan of Panchghora Gram Panchayat, he had arranged alternative land for the Tata project.
According to Mallik, around 3,000 bighas of barren (vested) land located nearly 10 km away from the proposed factory site had been identified and made available, with the involvement of some Tata officials. However, the then CPI(M) leadership allegedly ignored this option and instead allotted fertile multi-crop land for the project, where construction began. He added that following a Supreme Court verdict, Tata was eventually forced to withdraw from Singur.
Mallik further alleged that widespread public anger against the CPI(M) led to the rise of the Trinamool Congress in the state. However, he claimed that individuals associated with the CPI(M) later joined the TMC and began influencing its functioning. He also raised concerns over the current law and order situation in West Bengal.
In addition, he accused both the TMC and the BJP of indulging in “politics of allowances,” while alleging that the BJP is attempting to divide people along religious lines. Targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Mallik claimed that her government has not delivered anything substantial for the Muslim community and alleged that imams have been politically influenced.
He further stated that the people of Bengal are frustrated with religious politics and the current governance, and are now seeking better administration. Mallik asserted that the Aam Janata Unnayan Party is emerging as an alternative, expressing confidence that its candidates will receive public support in the upcoming elections.
