Kolkata, 20 April (H.S.) : The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said Bengalis living across India and abroad are keenly watching the Assembly elections and are hoping for political change in the state.

The remarks were made during a press conference held at the party’s Salt Lake office in Kolkata, attended by state BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, along with members of the Bengali diaspora who, the party said, wish to see a new political direction in West Bengal.

Speaking at the event, Bhattacharya said Bengalis settled across the country and overseas continue to share an emotional connection with their home state. He said many among them are interested in investing in West Bengal and want to see an improvement in the current situation.

Also present at the press conference was Yudhajit Sen Majumdar, secretary of Overseas Friends of BJP.

Addressing the gathering, Sen Majumdar said the upcoming election was not a routine political contest but a decisive moment for the future of the state.

He alleged that Bengal had witnessed decline over the past several decades and said if change did not come now, the state might lose an important opportunity for recovery.

“We are standing at a turning point,” he said, adding that nationalist Bengalis living across the world were expecting transformation in the state.

He further said Bengalis abroad had seen India’s global image strengthen under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, but remained concerned over the condition of West Bengal.

Sen Majumdar said many expatriate Bengalis wanted to invest in the state, expand business opportunities and work in emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, but lacked confidence under the current political environment.

He said a change in government was necessary to restore investor confidence and unlock Bengal’s potential.
