Coimbatore, 18 April (H.S.):A comprehensive security cover and extensive traffic regulations have been put in place across Coimbatore on Saturday in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city, where he is scheduled to address a major public rally as part of the NDA’s campaign for the Assembly elections.

According to official sources, the Prime Minister will arrive in the evening and proceed directly to the rally venue. The event is expected to draw large crowds, with senior BJP leaders and alliance partners sharing the stage and mobilising support for NDA candidates ahead of the polls.

In anticipation of the high-profile visit, city police have enforced traffic diversions from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., particularly along key routes such as Avinashi Road and surrounding arterial stretches. Heavy vehicles and buses from Salem, Erode and Tiruppur have been barred from entering the city via the Airport junction (SITRA) and have instead been diverted through Neelambur to the L&T bypass, passing via Chinthamanipudur, Ondipudur and Singanallur.

Similarly, outbound traffic has been rerouted via Lakshmi Mills junction, Puliakulam and Tiruchi Road. Light motor vehicles entering from Neelambur have been instructed to take alternative routes through Thottipalayam, Kaikolapalayam and Kalapatti, while vehicles exiting via Avinashi Road must use the Tidel Park junction diversion.

Stringent restrictions have also been imposed at the Coimbatore International Airport. Entry of vehicles to the terminal will be prohibited between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. due to VVIP movement, including the Prime Minister and other senior leaders. Passengers have been advised to reach the airport well in advance, as private vehicles and taxis will not be allowed near the terminal during this period.

Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the arrangements to ensure smooth traffic flow and security during the visit.
