Chirang (Assam), 17 April (HS): The tense situation in Assam’s Chirang district following the violent incident at the Runikhata Forest Range Office has begun to gradually normalise, officials said on Friday.
Senior Superintendents of Police from four districts reached the spot to take stock of the situation and oversee security arrangements. Their presence has significantly helped in restoring confidence among local residents and maintaining law and order in the area.
In connection with the incident, police have so far arrested four individuals for their alleged involvement in the violence and arson. Further investigation is underway and more arrests are likely, sources said.
Senior police officials, including SSP Nomol Mahata, also held discussions with the protesting locals in an effort to defuse tensions and address their concerns. Authorities stated that continuous dialogue is being maintained to prevent any further escalation.
Security forces remain deployed in the area, although the situation is now reported to be under control. Officials have urged residents to maintain peace and cooperate with the administration as normalcy is gradually being restored.----------
