In a high‑scoring encounter of IPL 2026, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered a commanding 18‑run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. RCB’s disciplined bowling unit shut the door on Mumbai’s chase despite a late onslaught, sealing a hard‑fought win in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Batting first, Royal Challengers tallied a massive 240/4 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a blistering 78 from Phil Salt, complemented by a quick 53 from Rajat Patidar. Virat Kohli also raced to a brisk half‑century, helping the visitors post a formidable total that tilted the contest heavily in their favour.

Chasing 241, Mumbai Indians began strongly, with Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton providing a rapid start. They put on 62 runs in the powerplay, laying the foundation for a potentially successful pursuit. However, Rohit Sharma retired hurt in the sixth over due to a hamstring strain, a setback that disrupted MI’s momentum early in the innings.

In the middle order, Sherfane Rutherford played a dazzling, unbeaten 71 off just 31 balls, keeping Mumbai’s hopes alive and turning the contest into a nail‑biter. He shared a valiant 68‑run stand with Mitchell Santner, but despite his aggressive assault, the required rate proved too steep, and Mumbai fell short, finishing at 222/5.

For RCB, Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma delivered tight, wicket‑taking spells that checked the scoring and dismantled key partnerships. Their disciplined line and length ultimately restricted Mumbai to 222/5 in 20 overs, handing Royal Challengers an 18‑run victory.

With this win, RCB secured their third triumph in four matches and climbed to third place on the points table with six points. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians suffered their third consecutive loss, leaving their campaign in a more precarious position and intensifying the pressure on the defending‑champions‑turned‑underdogs.
