Bhubaneswar, 12 April (H.S.): In a major move to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the annual Rath Yatra, authorities have decided to bring the Ratha Khala (Place where Rathas are made) under continuous CCTV surveillance. The Ratha Khala is the sacred site where the grand chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra are constructed.

Officials informed that a total of 12 CCTV cameras, including two advanced PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) cameras, will be installed across the construction site. These high-tech cameras can rotate, tilt, and zoom to monitor activities from multiple angles, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the sprawling area.

The surveillance arrangement will be in place from April 20 to July 15, starting with the commencement of chariot construction on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and continuing until the completion of the work.

In addition, similar security measures will be implemented for the upcoming Chandan Yatra. As part of this, 14 CCTV cameras, including two PTZ units, will be installed at Chandan Chakada. These will remain operational from April 20 to May 10, covering the entire 21-day festival period, during which thousands of devotees participate in the sacred boat procession of the deities.

All cameras will be directly linked to the police control room for round-the-clock monitoring. Senior police and temple administration officials stated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance security, ensure smooth conduct of rituals, and manage large crowds during the key pre-Rath Yatra events.
