Tehran, 12 April (H.S.): Iran has accused the American media of double standards, saying that while the United States accuses Tehran of lacking sincerity, some American platforms are publishing violent remarks against Iranian representatives. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said such rhetoric damages the atmosphere for diplomacy and weakens the process of dialogue.
Baqaei referred to an article in The Washington Post and said it suggested that the safety of Iranian leaders could depend on a deal. He described that kind of language as serious and questioned whether it was an attempt to pressure or intimidate Iran. According to him, using threats or the suggestion of violence to influence negotiations is not consistent with international standards.
Iran said this statement comes at a time when talks between Tehran and Washington are continuing on several issues. The country added that the negotiations are being closely watched around the world. The episode reflects the long-running mistrust that continues to shape Iran-U.S. relations.
