Chennai, 12 April (H.S.): Chennai Super Kings have finally opened their account in IPL 2026. At the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai defeated Delhi Capitals by 23 runs to register their first win of the tournament. The victory was especially significant for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who tasted success for the first time after three consecutive defeats.

Chennai’s Innings

Batting first, Chennai produced a massive total of 212 in 20 overs. The biggest innings came from Sanju Samson, who remained unbeaten on 115 and decisively shaped the course of the match. Young batter Ayush Mhatre added 59, while Shivam Dube gave the innings late momentum with a quick 20 not out.

Samson’s hundred was his first for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, and it came off 56 balls.

Delhi’s Chase

Delhi began the chase briskly. Pathum Nissanka struck 41 off 24 balls and, along with KL Rahul, helped Delhi race to 61 runs in the first five overs.

After that, Chennai’s bowlers produced a sharp comeback and removed four Delhi wickets in quick succession, shifting the match firmly in their favor. Tristan Stubbs fought back with a 60-run innings, but he could not carry his team to victory.

Bowling Impact

Jamie Overton was the standout bowler, finishing with four wickets and emerging as the hero of the win. Anshul Kamboj supported him well by taking three wickets.

Overton’s dismissal of Stubbs proved to be the turning point of the match, after which Delhi’s chase lost momentum.

With this win, Chennai collected two important points and sent clear signs of a comeback in the tournament. The result also lifted them away from the bottom of the table.

For CSK, it was not just a victory, but a statement that their campaign may finally be turning around.
