New Delhi, 12 April (H.S.):

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been slapped with a hefty ₹12 lakh fine. The penalty stems from his team's sluggish over-rate during Saturday night's clash against Delhi Capitals (DC).

According to the IPL, CSK maintained an underwhelming over-rate in the 18th match of Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As this marked their first transgression this season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct—governing minimum over-rate offences—Gaikwad was levied the standard ₹12 lakh penalty.

On the match front, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings clinched their inaugural victory of the season, defeating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs. Opting to bat first, CSK amassed a towering 212/2 in 20 overs.

Sanju Samson delivered a masterful unbeaten 115, the standout knock of the innings. Youngster Ayush Mhatre chipped in with 59, while Shivam Dube's brisk unbeaten 20 further bolstered the imposing total.

In pursuit of 213, Delhi Capitals faltered, folding for 189 in 20 overs. Tristan Stubbs led the charge with 60, supported by Pathum Nissanka's 41, Ashutosh Sharma's 19, KL Rahul's 18, and David Miller's 17. The rest of the lineup failed to fire significantly.

Chennai Super Kings' next encounter is slated for April 14 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
