Amid the crisis in West Asia, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a virtual discussion on Saturday with Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al‑Qassabi, Minister of Commerce of Saudi Arabia, during which both sides underscored the need to ensure the continuity of existing supply chains.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Minister Piyush Goyal spoke virtually with Saudi Arabia’s Commerce Minister Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al‑Qassabi and expressed hope that the recently announced ceasefire would pave the way for lasting peace and security in the region.
The Ministry said he praised the indomitable courage of the Saudi people, who have remained steadfast in their resolve to keep supply chains strong despite rising challenges and regional instability. Goyal also condemned recent attacks on the country and appreciated Saudi Arabia’s efforts to safeguard the Indian community.
The Ministry stated that both sides acknowledged the stress the ongoing conflict has placed on regional supply chains and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to normalise the situation quickly and ensure smooth trade flows.
Piyush Goyal highlighted steps taken by India to boost exports to Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region. The Ministers reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and expressed optimism that India–GCC free trade agreement negotiations would make early progress.
