Chandigarh, 11 April (H.S.): In a strong message to curb the growing menace of gun culture and misleading online content, Director General of Police Ajay Singhal has issued a stern warning, stating that strict action will be taken against those promoting such material on social media platforms.

The Haryana Police, in a significant crackdown, has removed a total of 6,083 objectionable URLs, apps, and websites between January 1 and April 10, 2026. According to official data, the majority of such content 4,278 links was found on platforms owned by Meta, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Additionally, 1,172 links were taken down from YouTube, 372 from X (formerly Twitter), 53 from Telegram, 36 from Reddit, 5 from Snapchat, and 167 from other platforms.

Zero tolerance for gun culture and misleading content

DGP Singhal emphasized that any content glorifying weapons, promoting violence, or spreading obscenity particularly involving women and minors will not be tolerated. He also warned against fake and misleading posts that distort facts or present a negative image of the state. Such activities, he said, not only harm social values but also pose a threat to law and order and communal harmony.

Highlighting the state government’s stance, Singhal said that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is taking the issue very seriously. Under his leadership, the government is implementing strict measures to curb anti-social and misleading activities online and ensure a safe digital environment.

Singhal urged citizens, especially youth and digital content creators, to use social media responsibly and promote constructive and positive messaging. He cautioned that anyone found spreading misinformation, inciting unrest, or hurting cultural sentiments directly or indirectly will face stringent action under the law.
