Guwahati, 06 March (HS): A fresh wave of resignations has hit the Congress in Assam with two senior leaders from Kamrup district stepping down from the party.
Kamrup District Congress Vice President Sundar Deka and General Secretary Hemanta Dutta have resigned from the party, triggering fresh political discussions within the state unit.
According to sources, Sundar Deka, who had been associated with the Congress for nearly 35 years, decided to quit the party expressing strong resentment against Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi. His resignation is being seen as a setback for the party in the district.
Party insiders said both leaders formally submitted their resignation citing dissatisfaction with the current leadership and internal functioning of the party. The development comes at a time when political activities have intensified in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.
Political observers believe the resignations may have an impact on the Congress organisation in Kamrup district, as both leaders were considered active workers with long-standing association with the party.------------
