Shanghai, 31 March (H.S.):

The Consulate General of India in Shanghai hosted a high-level business roundtable with a corporate delegation from PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), aiming to strengthen global trade partnerships and sustainable economic cooperation between India and China.

India's Consul General Prateek Mathur inaugurated the event, welcoming the delegation and highlighting India's remarkable economic growth trajectory as the world's fastest-growing major economy with the youngest demographics, creating vast opportunities for international partnerships and investments.

In his address, Mathur emphasized India's rising prospects in key sunrise sectors including new and renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), connectivity and infrastructure development, and information technology industries. These areas offer substantial potential for collaboration between Indian firms and global companies pursuing sustainable growth.

This visit marks the first Indian business delegation to China in five years, following a thaw in bilateral relations after the 2020 Eastern Ladakh military standoff. The PHDCCI team from Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi is touring Shanghai and Jiangsu province—one of China's most industrialized regions—from March 29 to April 4, engaging Chinese counterparts.

The roundtable saw significant representation from Chinese entities, including leading firms and financial institutions like HSBC and Wuxi Technology Development Corporation, signaling keen interest in expanding cooperation with Indian companies in emerging industries and technology sectors.
