New Delhi, 03 March (H.S.):

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi criticised the government's reticence over the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli airstrikes, calling it not neutrality but a dereliction of responsibility.

In an op-ed for an English daily, she argued the killing constitutes a direct assault on international law and sovereignty, violating UN Charter Article 2(4) that prohibits force against any nation's political independence or territorial integrity. India's lack of a clear response as a democracy is deeply concerning, she added.

Congress Condemns Escalation, Urges Peace

The Congress party condemned the bombings and targeted killings in Iran as dangerous provocations, extending condolences to Iranians and Shia communities worldwide. It reaffirmed India's foreign policy rooted in peace and non-violent dispute resolution, demanding parliamentary debate on the government's disturbing silence when the Budget session resumes.
