Kathmandu, 29 March (H.S.):

Nepal's new administration under Balendra Balen Shah moved swiftly Sunday to honor an election promise, assigning government jobs in the electricity sector to the immediate families of 27 students killed by police gunfire during last year's Gen Z movement on September 8.

The Nepal Electricity Authority issued notifications promptly after the decision, offering positions in home districts based on qualifications and skills—up to contract roles at three levels. Applicants must complete formalities within 35 days to receive appointment letters.

Shah, the former Kathmandu mayor turned key political figure who backed the anti-corruption youth uprising that toppled the prior government, had vowed jobs for the martyrs' kin in his manifesto.
