Miami, 27 March (H.S.):
World No 2 Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has powered his way into the semi‑finals of the Miami Open 2026 after a commanding straight‑sets victory over home favourite Taylor Fritz. Sinner defeated the American in Wednesday’s quarter‑final clash by 6‑2, 6‑2, underlining his status as favourite in the Masters 1000 event and extending his run of form on the hard‑court circuit.
The Italian controlled the entire match from start to finish, allowing Fritz no momentum and no real window to mount a comeback. Sinner surrendered just nine points on his service games and wrapped up the contest in only 71 minutes, a display of consistency and precision that has become his trademark. By reaching the last four in Miami, Sinner has now advanced to the semi‑finals of the tournament for the fourth time in his career and has also set a new record by securing 30 consecutive sets wins at the Masters 1000 level.
After the match, Sinner said that seizing an early lead was crucial to his approach. “It is very important to get an early break in the match because it gives you confidence,” he said. “I always try to stay calm and take advantage of my chances; today that was the key to my victory.” Now firmly in the final four, Sinner will face either third‑seeded German Alexander Zverev or 18th‑seeded Argentine Francisco Cerúndolo in the semi‑finals, with a place in the Miami Open final on the line.
Sinner is currently in outstanding form and is chasing the so‑called “Sunshine Double,” having already captured the Indian Wells title earlier in the season. His dominant performance against Fritz in Miami brings him one step closer to completing that rare feat and consolidating his position near the top of the ATP rankings.
