Imphal, 26 March (HS): Security forces apprehended an active member of the proscribed militant outfit UNLF (P) during an operation in Manipur’s Imphal West district, officials said on Thursday.

The arrest was made on March 25 from the Patsoi area under Patsoi Police Station following specific intelligence inputs about the movement of underground operatives in the region. The accused has been identified as Asem Subash Meitei alias Lingjelkhomba (30), a native of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak and currently residing at Patsoi Part-II Awang Leikai.

During the operation, security personnel conducted a search and recovered a mobile phone from his possession. The device has been seized and is expected to provide vital leads regarding the cadre’s communication network and possible operational activities.

Officials stated that the United National Liberation Front (Progressive), or UNLF (P), remains one of the active insurgent groups in Manipur, prompting continued counter-insurgency measures by security agencies to curb unlawful activities and maintain public order.

Further investigation is in progress to determine the extent of Meitei’s involvement and to trace potential links with other operatives or modules operating in the region.-----------
