Chennai, 26 March (H.S.):

Today marks the final window for eligible citizens in Tamil Nadu to enrol in the electoral roll ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, with authorities urging last-minute applicants to act without delay.

The Election Commission of India has issued a strong appeal to all unregistered voters, particularly first-time voters and those who have recently changed their place of residence, to ensure their names are included in the voter list before the deadline ends.

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase, with an electorate of around 5.67 crore voters. In the lead-up to the elections, officials have repeatedly emphasised the importance of verifying voter details well in advance to avoid last-minute complications on polling day.

March 26 has been officially designated as the final date for submitting applications for inclusion in the electoral roll. Those whose names are missing can apply using Form 6, either by approaching the designated Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or through the official online portal.

Election authorities said that more than three lakh applications have already been received during the revision period, reflecting a steady public response to the enrolment drive.

Officials underlined that ensuring one’s name is on the voter list is as crucial as casting the vote itself. Missing the deadline would mean ineligibility to participate in the upcoming elections, as no further extension is expected.

To streamline the process, special arrangements have been put in place, including digital registration facilities and on-ground assistance through local electoral officials.

With only hours remaining, authorities have once again called on eligible citizens to complete the enrolment process, stressing that inclusion in the electoral roll is the first and most essential step in participating in the democratic process.
