Kolkata, 26 March (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Ratna Debnath, mother of a young doctor who was a victim in the RG Kar rape and murder case, from the Panihati assembly seat in North 24 Parganas district, projecting the contest as a fight for justice.
BJP co-incharge and IT cell chief Amit Malviya said in a post on X on Thursday morning that the move was not merely about nominating a candidate but about seeking justice.
Questioning the state government’s handling of the case, he alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government had committed several serious lapses in dealing with the crime.
Malviya claimed that these alleged lapses included attempts to suppress the truth, destruction of evidence, irregularities in the post-mortem, hurried cremation, failure to preserve forensic samples, and tampering with the crime scene.
He appealed to the people to support Ratna Debnath and stand with her in what he described as a fight for justice, urging voters to back change.
