
Kolhapur, 26 Mar (HS): Senior historian Dr Jaysingh
Pawar passed away on Thursday early morning. He was 85. He was suffering from
health issues related to his lungs and was being treated for about 45 days.
Pawar was a staunch supporter of principles of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj.
Born
on 30 December 1941 in Tadsar town in Sangli district, he did MA and later
acquired doctoral degree from Kolhapur’s Shivaji University. He was a college
teacher for three decades and was popular among the students. He has more than
25 books on History to his credit, and presented more than 45 research papers
published during various conferences in History. Dr Pawar established Maharashtra
Itihas Prabodhini in 1992 and worked as its director. His book on Rajarshi
Shahu Maharaj publiched in three volumes in 2001 was translated in 16 Indian
languages and Russin, German and Urdu languages.
Dr
Jaysingh Pawar was honoured with various awards for his contribution to the
field of history.
