
Mumbai, 24 Mar (HS): The financial support of Rs 24.10 crore for 65 Marathi
films of A, B and C categories and 98 films during Covid-19 pandemic period was
distributed in Mumbai on Tuesday. Under Maharashtra Government scheme to support
quality Marathi films the support was disbursed at the hands of Cultural
Minister Ashish Shelar.
Shelar
announced that the proposal for construction of dedicated theatres for Marathi
films in Mumbai is under consideration by CM Devendra Fadnavis-led Maharashtra
Government, In other parts of Maharashtra similar projects will be undertaken
in phases.
The
event was organised by Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Department’s Maharashtra
Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation at Yeshvantrao Chavan Trust
premises in Mumbai. The cheques relating to the financial support were distributed
on the occasion. Senior officers and film producers were present on the
occasion.
The government has decided to support quality film production in Marathi. Rs 40
lakh for ‘A’ category, Rs 30 lakh for B category and Rs 10 lakh for C category
films is being given. A committee of 28 members
has been formed to evaluate the films and maintain transparency in the process.
During
the Covid-19 pandemic the Censor certificate awarded films are being given Rs
4.90 crore. A total of 496 between 2023 and 2026 have been evaluated by the
Committee.
Facilities
using modern technology is being created for production of Marathi films and
upgradation of existing film cities. Shelar expressed hope that quality films
will be produced as rich literature in Marathi is available.
