Lucknow, 23
March (HS): Yogi
Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has highlighted the tremendous
achievements of Sikh Gurus, notably the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji,
who founded the tradition of Miri-Piri (temporal and spiritual authority) and
armed the Sikh community. Adityanath has celebrated Sikh history by hosting
activities and commemorating Guru sacrifices, such as attending exhibits and and
observing Sahibzadas' sacrifices at his home. The UP Chief Minister has
regularly interacted with the Sikh community, underlining the Gurus' historical
link to Uttar Pradesh.
Guru
Hargobind Sahib Ji is noted for militarizing the Sikh society, wielding two
swords that represent Miri (temporal) and Piri (spiritual) power. He was the
sixth Sikh Guru, serving for 38 years and father of the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh
Bahadur. The memory of the Sikh Gurus is honored in locations like Gurudwara
Yahiyaganj in Lucknow, which is tied to his heritage, and CM Yogi has stressed
their importance in Indian culture.
In
a post on X, he mentioned, “Millions of salutations to the sixth Guru of the
Sikh faith, the originator of the great tradition of Miri-Piri
(devotion-power), Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj, on his birth
anniversary. A symbol of righteousness, courage, and self-respect, Shri Guru
Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj inspired society to stand up against injustice by
showing the path of bravery and self-respect along with spiritual
consciousness. His life, embodying the spirit of a saint-soldier,
will always remain a guiding light for the nation and humanity.”
