New Delhi, 23 March (H.S.):
The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Haryana government and state DGP on a petition seeking CBI or SIT investigation into the rape of a four-year-old girl in Gurugram.
A bench led by Chief Justice Justice Suryakant ordered Gurugram's police commissioner and investigating officer to appear with all records on March 25.
The court also directed the district judge to ask the relevant magistrate why such a sensitive case saw such lax handling.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi had mentioned the matter on March 20, calling it a horrifying case. The minor was produced before the magistrate, no arrests made, crime scene unsecured, no CCTV footage seized. The girl named everyone involved including a domestic helper but Gurugram police did nothing.
CJI had questioned why not approach the high court first but listed it for today after Rohatgi noted the high court sits in Chandigarh while the family is in Gurugram – stressing the need for a top court message.
