Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Finance Bill 2026 in Lok Sabha on Monday, laying out the Central government's financial proposals, tax framework and budgetary policies for fiscal year 2026-27.

While introducing the bill, Sitharaman moved for its consideration and passage to enact these measures for the upcoming year. Debate kicked off right away, led off by Congress MP Amar Singh. This key legislation will give legal teeth to the Union Budget's announcements.

What is the Finance Bill?

The Finance Bill is an annual fiscal document tabled post-budget to implement tax proposals, levy changes and revenue measures. It falls under Article 110 (Money Bill) or 117 (Financial Bill) of the Constitution, originates solely in Lok Sabha, and becomes the Finance Act upon passage.
