Tinsukia (Assam), 22 March (HS): At least four personnel were injured in a grenade attack on an Assam Police commando camp in the Jagun area of Tinsukia district in the early hours of Sunday, raising fresh security concerns in the region.

According to police sources, the attack took place around 2 am at the camp located in the 10 Mile area under Jagun. Miscreants reportedly hurled five grenades at the camp, followed by heavy firing. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, though suspicion is being cast on the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa-Independent).

Security personnel stationed at the camp retaliated immediately, leading to a fierce exchange of fire that lasted for nearly 30 minutes in the sensitive tea garden belt near the Arunachal Pradesh border.

Among the injured, three sustained minor injuries, while one was reported to be seriously wounded. All the injured personnel were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The injured have been identified as Chitranjan Mili and Debashish Bora from Jorhat, Ravi Gar from Chabua, and one other personnel.

In the wake of the incident, security forces have intensified search operations, set up checkpoints, and enhanced aerial surveillance to trace the attackers. The incident has heightened security concerns, especially amid the ongoing Assam Assembly elections, as Tinsukia has a history of such militant activities.------------
